Karolina Pliskova was back to winning ways in Wuhan needing only two sets to dispatch rising teenager Amanda Anisimova to advance to the Last 16.
It was a 6-3, 6-3 win for the No.2 seed who recently claimed her first WTA title in China winning the
Zhengzhou Open. Both set had a frenetic start with Anisimova going 2-0 up in both only to get pegged back by Pliskova who eased through both sets reclaiming momentum and showing her form.
For the Czech ace, she said it just wasn't there to start the contest but that it was a contest which had a bit of everything. Despite that, she is pleased with her performance and that she just needs to get used to the night match conditions.
“I think there was a little bit of everything in the match,” Pliskova told wtatennis.com afterwards. “Of course, the start was very slow for me. A lot of waiting, so I think I was a little bit, not sleepy, but just not really there.
“After, I think it was not a bad match. At some parts I think I was playing good tennis from the baseline. I felt actually quite good, but also it was the first night match for me. It was a little bit different, the conditions, for me. I just needed some time to get used to it.”
