Alexander Zverev received what many have called a fairly light punishment for his Acapulco outburst that saw him almost physically harm an umpire.

The ATP released a statemenet that followed the rulling which said:

"As a result, Zverev has been issued an additional fine of US$25,000 and a suspension for a period of eight weeks from any ATP-sanctioned event. However, the fine and suspension are withheld on the condition that, over a probation period ending 22 February 2023 (one year from the incident), the player does not incur a further Code Violation that results in a fine for."

Many have called the punishment quite light with many expecting a very harsh one in order to set a precedent for the future which should see players discouraged of doing anything similar. The outburst was quite severe and almost resulted in physical harm to the umpire. Pam Shriver was one of those tennis legends that was left unimpressed writing on Twitter:

"Name another sport that would not protect it’s officials who have been physically attacked and intimidated by a competitor, by serving a probation vs a suspension? What am I missing?"
