Nick Kyrgios got in another heated exchange with an umpire during his semifinal match in Houston against Reilly Opelka.
In a crucial game at 5-5 in the 2nd set, Opelka seemingly pushed a ball wide with the umpire not intervening and play resumed. Kyrgios was stunned by it and never got back to the point with Opelka hitting a backhand winner to make it 30-30 in the game. Kyrgios showed the umpire the mark, however, he responded with:
"I don't know from here"
Kyrgios countered: "What do you mean, you don't know from there? Where are you supposed to sit then if you can't see it?"
The umpire responded: "That's why I called it in"
Kyrgios countered "The ball is out bro!"
Kyrgios and the umpire continued to exchange opinions as the umpire tried to explain his reasoning. Kyrgios was unhappy questioning what the point of umpires is if a player is going to win a point on clay where marks are visible. Kyrgios also pointed out there is no hawkeye so he can challenge it.
Eventually, the umpire gave Kyrgios a point penalty for audible obscenity which was the right call and Kyrgios did not protest it. He did have further discussion with him after the match was over although he did not throw a tantrum which was good to see.
