That is why his comments on the whole Peng Shuai situation have been rather measured. The Russian did not want to choose sides in the matter declaring himself a tennis player first and foremost but he did realize the difficulty of the situation. As its an ongoing thing the Russian was once again asked about it and he said:
"What WTA did is a reaction, so ATP did a different reaction. I don't want to say which one is good or bad. But definitely what WTA did is strong. Yeah, there were a lot of money involved there."
Once again Medvedev did not want to pick sides with either the WTA or ATP as the organizations have somewhat different ways of handling it. The WTA pulled all events from China in response while the ATP decided to keep monitoring the situation unwilling to commit to the same harsh stance.
Medvedev was also asked if he would play in China and the Russian did not fully rule out something like that but also admitted that neither he nor anybody would really be comfortable playing there next week indicating that things would be difficult for players while the situation is not cleared:
"If the tournament would be next week, probably nobody would feel comfortable."
