Former world number five Jimmy Arias singled out
Stan Wawrinka as one of the players that can overpower Djokovic from the baseline.
Novak Djokovic is one of the greatest players of all time and it would be easier listing the things he does badly on the court than those he does well. Overhead smatches are a long-time issue for Djokovic but luckily there are easy workarounds around that shot. He's pretty great from the baseline and that prowess is one of the reasons why so many struggles with him.
According to former pro, Jimmy Arias, one player did not have those issues on his best day. It's Stan Wawrinka about whom Arias said:
"I went with Stan as well because of the 3 Majors and the fact that he absolutely crushes that backhand with incredible pace. When he's on, he's the one guy I've ever seen that can overpower Novak Djokovic in baseline rallies. With forehand, backhand Djokovic has nothing that he can do when Stan was on in those finals."
The conversation was on the topic of the best one-handed backhand players on the Tour not named Roger Federer and Arias picked Wawrinka as the best one. He added the tidbit about Djokovic and it's very true, the Swiss maestro troubled Djokovic very much in their matchup, similarly to Juan Martin Del Potro.
The 2nd choice by Arias in the backhand department was Dominic Thiem and the 3rd was Richarg Gasquet.
