Davis Cup
will take place next week and the teams have already announced their
competitors.
The Davis
Cup is on the verge of its conclusion week starting on November 21, with the
world No. 1 Novak Djokovic (Serbia) and Jannik Sinner (Italy) as the
tournament's main figures. Both reached the semifinals of the ATP Finals and
continue their quest for the title.
The
defending champions of 2022, Canada, welcome back the world No. 19, Felix
Auger-Aliassime, alongside Gabriel Diallo, Alexis Galarneau, and Vasek
Pospisil. They clinched the Group A title in Bologna in September.
Former
Wimbledon runner-up Milos Raonic has also been named in the Canadian team and
could make his first Davis Cup appearance since 2018. Canada will face Finland
in the first round on Tuesday, November 21, led by the world No. 67, Emil
Ruusuvuori.
On
Wednesday, November 22, the second quarterfinal will see Australia, the
runner-up in 2022, against the Czech Republic. Both teams, led by De Minaur and
Jiri Lehecka, respectively, have remained unchanged since the Group Stage in
September.
Sinner, not
taking a break after the ATP Finals in Turin, will play against the Netherlands
on Thursday, November 23, after missing the Group Stage due to injury. The
Dutch team is led by the world No. 25, Tallon Griekspoor, and the No. 3 doubles
player in the world, Wesley Koolhof.
The last
quarterfinal series, scheduled for the night of Thursday, November 23, will
feature Djokovic, a 24-time Grand Slam champion, with his teammates Laslo
Djere, Dusan Lajovic, Miomir Kecmanovic, and Hamad Medjedovic. Serbia,
captained by Viktor Troicki, will face Great Britain, led by Cameron Norrie,
with notable figures like Daniel Evans and 3-times Grand Slam champion Andy
Murray, along with Jack Draper, 21 years old, and Neal Skupski, No. 4 in the
world in doubles.
The Davis
Cup quarterfinals will take place from Tuesday, November 21, to Thursday,
November 23. The semifinals will be held on Friday, November 24, and Saturday,
November 25, with the 2023 Davis Cup final taking place on Sunday, November 26.
