After a public call out by Marta Kostyuk, the WTA has made a U-turn and will meet Ukranian players, something which they weren't going to do before it.
Ukrainian tennis players requested a meeting with the WTA to discuss the ongoing war in their country and what can be done more. It comes after a recent spell of controversy that started with Potapova wearing a Russian jersey to the courts and continued with several other instances. The initial request for a meeting was ignored according to Marta Kostyuk who took it public.
After that, a WTA spokesperson confirmed that the meeting has been agreed upon. The spokesperson also said that every request for a meeting has been granted and they were held. It's an interesting development considering the contrary statements from the different sides as the WTA is clearly in damage control mode after quite a bit of outrage following Kostyuk's comments.
It's hard to tell what has been really going on behind the scenes but the organisation is adamant that they are fully in support of their Ukranian tennis players, something they would not agree with.
