Alexander Bublik had to watch Maxime Cressy lift the
Hall of Fame Open trophy but he can only blame himself for losing a 'won match'.
Bublik was cruising towards a trophy in Newport after winning the opening set 6-2 and taking an early 3-0 lead against Cressy. The Kazakh player played in the final last year against Isner and lost that one too but here he actually threw it away. After taking a 3-0 lead in the 2nd set he lost 6 games in a row, on grass mind you, to drop the 2nd set.
After that, Cressy was very confident and he was able to get it done in the final. After the final, Bublik was not particularly keen to speak kindly of his opponent opting for some truthful bitterness:
"You have had great luck. Put your whole prize money on red. You're going to win big."
Cressy was not too impressed with the comment and apologized for being lucky. Seems like they won't be friends.
