Dealing with health issues, a former world no. 7 Mardy Fish had to end his career at the US Open 2015, staying in love with tennis and becoming the USA Davis Cup captain.
Known as a fair rival on the court, Fish would always say nice words about his opponents and the leading tennis figures, with particular admiration towards
Roger Federer. Mardy and Roger played against each other nine times, with the American scoring his only victory in Indian Wells 2008 when he toppled the great Swiss in style after dropping only five games. Answering a Twitter question a few days ago, Fish mentioned Roger Federer's Major streaks as the most unbelievable stats in sport.
Owner of many records, Roger had incredible streaks at Major tournaments in his prime years, standing above all the opponents and becoming the most successful player in history already in 2009 when he passed Pete Sampras. Between Wimbledon 2004 and the Australian Open 2010, Federer rattled off 23 consecutive Major semi-finals, earning a record that will never be broken.
Novak Djokovic is miles behind with 14, while Jimmy Connors stays on 11, although he skipped a couple of Roland Garros events. In an even more impressive streak, Federer had 36 Major quarter-finals in a row between 2004-2013, standing eight in front of Novak Djokovic and nine ahead of Jimmy Connors, in another feat that will stay unmatched in the future.
