Spanish tennis star
Carlos Alcaraz’s younger brother Jaime
Alcaraz has won the Rafa Nadal tour.
The 20-year-old is currently the talk of the town after
winning his maiden Wimbledon title earlier this month after defeating Serbia’s
legendary tennis player Novak Djokovic in a five-set thriller with a score of 1–6,
7–6(8–6), 6–1, 3–6, 6–4.
That victory seems to inspire his younger brother Jamie as
well who has now won the Rafa Nadal tour, just like his elder brother did seven
years ago.
Jamie defeated Beltran Serrano De Pablo in the all-important
finale to lift the title.
Carlos’ win in London was indeed a very special one
considering that before this year, his best outing in the competition was
reaching the fourth round which he achieved last year.
That result also halted Djokovic’s march towards equaling
the former world number one Switzerland’s Roger Federer’s record of eight
Wimbledon titles.
As things stand, Djokovic remains the joint-second most
successful player in the competition’s history after winning seven titles,
equal with former world number one America’s Pete Sampras.
Alcaraz will now turn his focus towards the upcoming US Open
where he will be defending his crown. He won the title back last year after
defeating Norway’s Casper Ruud with a score of 6–4, 2–6, 7–6(7–1), 6–3.
