"You're wasting everybodies time" says fan to Paire in final game of match

Benoit Paire has not enjoyed any success since the pandemic hit and oftentimes he showed lacklustre play on the courts resulting in many insults and code violations. Today he did it again after he stepped out to play Diego Schwartzman once more.

He only won 5 points in the six games that essentially lasted about 20 minutes. After slamming two forehands in the net in the final game umpire Mohamed Lahyan issued him a code violation for lack of effort. Paire suddenly became animated and rushed to his bench saying: "Call the physio. I have pain."

Lahyani did not budge and simply replied:

"You cannot play like this. I’m not going to call the physio for this. You have to show more sportsmanship."

The crowd was not inspired and a fan shouted: You’re wasting everybody’s time.’

Paire attended the post match press conference and he said:

"I do not care about the people,’ said Paire. ‘I play for me and that is it. I do not play for people. I just try to stay in my room, do my Covid test. I disagree with everything. I like the tournament. When I started on the tour I said I don’t like the tournament but I really like it now. This thing I don’t like is how they treat us, like stay in a bubble and everybody is out in the city."
