Sascha Zverev and Jordan Thompson had to play 4 sets in order to reach the next round of the US Open but neither will be disappointed by that as the job got done. Sascha Zverev didn't have an easy opponent in round 2 as he faced up and coming American Brandon Nakashima. Brandon is a talented player who has a bright future and he recently didn't shy away from admitting his goal is to become number 1.

Today he showed all his potential as Zverev had to dig deep in order to beat him. The first set was a careful one by both players. Sascha was keen not to give his opponent any chances so he played conservative. That sort of play changed late in the set when he became more aggressive and won it 7-5. The 2nd one was a war of attrition as both player's played well and we ended up in a tiebreak.

There Nakashima showcased his calmness by outplaying Zverev in the tiebreak and winning it 10-8. It was a warning that Zverev took seriously and he became much more aggressive. It payed off as he jumped out to a lead which he converted to a 6-3 3rd set victory. A similar thing occurred in the final set with Zverev again taking an early 4-1 lead which became a 6-1 final set victory.

Jordan Thompson continued his solid play in these past week by defeating Egor Gerasimov from Belarus. Gerasimov had a good outing in the 1st round by defeating Lajovic unexpectedly. Thompson absolutely dominated the first half of the match winning the first two sets with 6-1 and 6-4. Gerasimov came back to win the 3rd with 6-3 but that would be it. Thompson once again took control of the match in the 4th set jumping out to an early lead and converting it into a 6-3 victory.
