Alexander Zverev battled past Pablo Carreno Busta 6-2 7-5 to secure the quarterfinal appearance at the Monte-Carlo Masters.
The German players arrived in Monte-Carlo with a need to win some matches and so far he has been delivering. The event has not been the best for him in the past as he struggled with the transition to clay despite being very adept at playing on the surface. Today, against a very good clay player, Zverev had no issues.
He entered the match with a lot of confidence as Carreno did not serve that well. He gave Zverev a lot of good looks and the German exploited his 2nd serve to race to a very quick finish in the first set 6-2. The 2nd set opened well for Carreno Busta who took an early lead similarly to how Delbonis did the same against Zverev in the previous round.
Carreno held the lead for a few games after which he lost it as Zverev got back into rhythm. The Spanish player never quite solved Zverev in this match as most of the damage he did came after Zverev dropped his focus. After getting back to 3-3, Zverev and Carreno exchanged a few games as neither was able to find a breakthrough.
Zverev was obviously closer to victory and eventually, he finished it off with 7-5. A good win for the German who continues to look good in Monaco.
