Alexander Zverev passed the Thanasi Kokkinakis test with ease in Miami battling past the Australian in straight sets 6-4 6-4.
It was a rather well-fought match between the two players lasting a bit over one and half hours. Kokkinakis came into this match rather fatigued having played quite a few long matches and it was quite evident that at times he simply did not have the step to keep up with Zverev. The German was having a rather solid week and another solid win today cemented that.
The match started off well for both players as they were able to keep their serve initially. Kokkinakis took a MTO not long into the match but continued to play on. Not long after that Zverev was able to get the break which was ultimately all he needed to win the opening set. He almost added another break but Kokkinakis held firm and the final score was 6-4.
Zverev was quite superb on his own serve and won most of the points rather easily. Kokknakis was very good as well however he did not hit his serve consistently (only about 50 %). That gave Zverev a lot of 2nd serve looks and he won 13 of 21 of those points. In the 2nd set, things were quite similar. Zverev once again dominated on his own serve.
Kokkinakis did as well but only on his first serve. In the end, Zverev broke his opponent once more to win the 2nd set with 6-4 and secure the quarterfinal.
