Alexander Zverev advanced into the semifinals at the 2019 ATP Finals when he defeated Daniil Medvedev 6-4 and 7-6.
Daniil Medvedev had no chance to qualify for the semifinals even in case of winning the match, whereas the German had a lot to play for. 2018
ATP Finals champion needed a win in order to be able to defend the title in London.
And he kicked-off the match perfectly. In the first game, Alexander broke Medvedev's service and got an early lead. Since that moment, both players held their serve and so Zverev won the first set 6-4.
In the second set, 12 games were not enough to decide and so the match was finished in a tie-break. There, it was again the number 7 seeded who was better and won 7-4.
Zverev advances into the semifinals in London, when he moved Nadal to 3rd place. Although
Nadal defeated Tsitsipas earlier today, it was not enough to advance, but he will still end as a year-end no.1.
