Alexander Zverev finally did it, he won a match at the Western & Southern Open which is his first-ever win at the event 7-6(3) 6-2 over Harris.
The German Olympic champion did not enjoy his stays in Cincinnati previously losing six times in six appearances. The German never won a match but it finally happened, in his 7th attempt. The opponent was a tricky one in Lloyd Harris but the South African could not show his best today for an entire match.
He was very good in the first set putting up a serving clinic the way he does from time to time. He hi5 8 aces and dropped only two 1st serve points the entire set. Zverev was exceptional as well losing only four points on his serve in total. He ultimately won the closely contested set with 7-3 in the tiebreak.
Harris could not put forward the same level in the 2nd set and Zverev was able to use that to his advantage. The South African did not hit as many first serves and he committed 3 double faults while having none in the 1st set. All of that coupled with the great play of Zverev allowed the German to take a double break lead.
He would close out the match with 6-2 in the 2nd set after a great all-around performance from start to finish. Zverev gets his first ever win in Cincinnati and looks as good as he did in the Olympics where he finished first.
