Simona Halep was due to play tonight in Cincinnati however the Romanian announced she would not play due to an injury.
Simona Halep is out of the Western & Southern Open in Cincinnati after suffering another injury. In a statement posted on her official, Twitter Halep announced that scans showed a minor tear in her adductor muscle which would make it too risky to play.
Muscle tears are tricky injuries and they can get significantly worse if the muscle in question is strained more. That is why Halep decided to skip over tonight's match and focus on healing in time for the US Open. She wrote:
"Unfortunately, a scan this morning showed that I have a small tear in my right adductor and therefore it would be too risky for me to play tonight. I will rest up and do everything I can to be ready for the US Open. To the fans in Cincy, it was beautiful to see you again."
Halep was supposed to face Jessica Pegula and the American moves on to the next round withouth playing a single point. Get well soon, Simona.
