Alexander Zverev had lost his match in Acapulco against his compatriot Daniel Altmaier 6:3; 3:6; 6:3 in the first round. As usual, the players meet at the net after the match to pay respect to each other, including the losing player congratulating the winner on his success.
However, Zverev's handshake with Altmaier after losing the match was very cold. This in turn did not go down well with the fans, who began to tear Zverev apart on social media, as this victory was ultimately the biggest success in his opponent's career to date. Players should also show themselves more respect after the match.
"I don't like him because he abuses his girlfriend, but is it okay to be a bit frosty after a defeat?" wrote one disappointed fan.
Another sneered, "Where's Netflix to record the prince of athleticism?"
But there are also quiet dissenting voices that agree with Zverev's reaction to the lost match, who ultimately wanted to repeat his 2021 success. Someone posted: "Nothing shocking...he's just very disappointed and wanted to leave the court as soon as possible."
