Italy will face Netherlands in the final of the 2024 Davis Cup Finals with the same score as last year in terms of the result against Australia as well as reaching the final. Jannik Sinner led from the front winning 6-3, 6-4 against Alex de Minaur.

Like the last tie which went to the doubles, it was very much Sinner and Berrettini who stepped up. The latter won through the opening match of the tie seeing off Thanasi Kokkinakis in three sets earlier on Saturday.

This then set up Alex de Minaur to attempt to topple the World No.1. But he had no answers to his prowess. They are the first country since 1991 to be able to reach the finals at both the Davis Cup and Billie Jean King Cup in back-to-back years.

It also marks Sinner's 13th consecutive win after winning the ATP Finals in the lead up to the Davis Cup Finals. It was said on commentary that perhaps Alexei Popyrin should've been anchored in for the second match given the 8-0 record in favour of Sinner but being their top player, Demon was preferred.

But it is perhaps the question of what if for Lleyton Hewitt as Kokkinakis stepped up but lost out down the stretch. While in the case of De Minaur, he was well beaten by the best player in the world right now and a player who he has never really got a handle on.

Sinner and Berrettini lead in singles as they did in doubles earlier in the week.

It is now 9-0 for Sinner and Italy like in the Billie Jean King Cup Finals this past weekend will go into the Davis Cup with a big favourite tag and perhaps a much easier route through than Paolini and co.

With Sinner, they have a top player to rest their hat on while Berrettini is likely to get the call again as unlike Musetti, he managed to win his singles tie. Now it is the matter of what the Netherlands can do to stop them. Botic van de Zandschulp and Tallon Griekspoor in singles led by Paul Haarhuis who has marvelled in being the party pooper will want to do just that again.

They joked about giving the Italian's food poisoning and they may need something like that to stop them given their rich vein of form. A tandem at the top of their game and seemingly joining their women in supremacy in Malaga.
