Karolina Muchova is known as one of the most talented players on the WTA Tour but also puts her fans through the ringer at some junctures and she did so again on Friday night at Upper Austria Ladies Linz.

But Muchova is into her first semi-final of 2025 defeating Anastasia Potapova 6-3, 3-6, 6-3 albeit doubts set in initially for the World No.19.

At the end of set two which Potapova took, Muchova appeared to pick up an injury as the Russian took immediate advantage to send it all the way. A leg injury appeared to be impacting her footwork and movement. She had her right thigh taped since the start of the second set and dropped off her intensity.

But Muchova managed to edge through. She managed to exert enough pressure onto the Potapova serve to quell the comeback as she broke for 3-1 pivotally despite needing multiple break points to do so.

She saved break points in the final game of the match as she claimed it 6-3 but only through three break chances for Potapova and sealing it on her second match point. She now faces the winner of Ekaterina Alexandrova or Petra Martic.

But in a tournament that looked pretty comfortable for her to have a chance to win as the standout name, injury doubts serve to quell the optimism perhaps. Tomorrow is. a new day and Muchova will hope to make a good fist of claiming the title.

Elsewhere on a week that provides potential optimism for those who need wins, Maria Sakkari had the age old tale of one win comes and then a poor loss followed as she was erratic in losing comfortably 7-5, 6-0 to Dayana Yastremska. She now faces Auckland champion, Clara Tauson who will hope to win a title through actually winning the final this time after being given the walkover in dramatic circumstances against Naomi Osaka earlier in the year.
