Jack Draper is into his first ATP 500 final with another milestone reached for the 22-year-old Brit this time at the Vienna Open. This after he reached the US Open semi-final just last month.
The British No.1 had a month's break before the tournament mainly down to injury as he defeated Lorenzo Musetti 6-2, 6-4 in one hour and 48 minutes. He is into his fourth tour level final.
He lost to Sinner last month at Flushing Meadows as he continues to ascend to new heights. He is now on course perhaps for his second career title following his victory in Stuttgart this summer.
He now faces the winner of the match between Alex de Minaur and Karen Khachanov. This in particular holds importance for the Aussie ace. He is chasing an ATP Finals debut and could pass Andrey Rublev in eighth position with the title in Vienna.
The first set for Draper saw the Brit break immediately in the tie only to have to claw said break back after Musetti made it 2-2. But he did so immediately and broke again en route to a 6-2 opener winning four games in a row from that level game.
He surged 3-1 up in the second and then 4-2. But he lost his serve pivotally at 4-4 as it looked like Musetti was on the comeback trail. It wasn't to be though for him as Draper broke straight back before closing it out in style 6-4.
