Sinner made his winning start to his debut campaign at the Open 13 Provence defeating Norbert Gombos in a 6-4, 7-6 (5) win in Marseille.
The Next Gen ATP Finals champion trailed in the second set tie break and it looked like he was set to be in a scrap but he came back to edge past the Frenchman.
He also saved all six break points that he faced throughout the tie as he continued his form from the ABN AMRO World Tennis Tournament last week where he defeated David Goffin to reach the Quarter-Finals.
He will now face top seed Daniil Medvedev in the second round aiming to cause another shock and continue his brilliant rise.
Hurkacz eased past Antoine Hoang in a 6-4, 6-1 victory dropping just two points behind his first serve in 22/24 and he will take on Pospisil after the Montpellier runner-up edged past Finnish ace Emil Ruusuvuori.
