Matteo Berrettini's girlfriend Melissa Satta has spoken about how she was studying for the Ryder Cup while supporting the Italian player at the
US Open.
Berrettini began dating Italian TV host and fashion model Satta in January of this year, and they have since been supporting each other in their various endeavors.
Now, the Sky Sports Italy presenter is preparing to host the opening ceremony for the biennial golf tournament between Europe and the United States known as the Ryder Cup, which will take place at Marco Simone Golf & Country Club in Rome on September 28.
Satta thrilled to be hosting golf event
Satta has previously expressed her excitement to be hosting the prestigious event, calling it 'amazing.'
"I think it is going to be amazing to host the Ryder Cup opening ceremony," she said, "When I had the call, I couldn’t believe it was actually going to be me. To have people from all over Europe and America coming to Rome is going to be very special, all there having fun enjoying sport together."
However, she has also been busy supporting Berrettini in New York, as he competed at the US Open. Satta referenced this on her Instagram story, writing:
"I study for the @therydercup at the @usopen."
Berrettini out of US Open with injury
However, the couple's time at Flushing Meadows has come to an end after Berrettini sustained an ankle injury during his second-round match against Arthur Rinderknech.
The 27-year-old rolled over on his ankle and collapsed to the floor, letting out a cry of pain and frustration following a season marred by injuries that forced him to miss several
ATP tournaments earlier in the year including the
French Open and the
Queen's Club Championships.
Berrettini was able to get up to shake hands with his opponent and the umpire but was forced to retire from the match and left the venue in a wheelchair.
