With the
pickleball craze taking over the nation, tennis greats
John McEnroe and
Maria Sharapova engaged in some playful trashtalk as they tried to choose a team name for their match against
Andre Agassi and
Steffi Graf in Pickleball Slam 2.
McEnroe and Sharapova will square off against Agassi and Graf in the second edition of the Pickleball Slam, with a $1 million prize purse at stack. While McEnroe and Agassi faced each other in last year's inaugural edition of the event, Sharapova and Graf will be making their Pickleball Slam debut on February 4, at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Hollywood, Florida.
No punches were pulled during team name selection
The pairing of Sharapova and McEnroe recently got together to choose a name for their team. Although McEnroe presented a number of names to Sharapova for approval, the retired Russian seemed unimpressed with any of them. However, she seemed intrigued upon coming across the name "Agassi sucks". This was initially shot down by McEnroe, who stated he wrote is as a joke on his notepad.
"Actually that's not one of them, I just put it in my notes," John McEnroe said.
"I actually quite like that one but we can keep going through the list until we find something," Sharapova responded.
Eventually, Sharapova took a liking to it and settled on "Agassi Sucks" as their team name, much to the delight of her American teammate.
"Let's just go with 'Agassi Sucks,'" she said.
