Aryna Sabalenka recently shared a photo of her meeting football legend David Beckham in Miami.
The 25-year-old has had a successful season this year, winning her first Grand Slam title at the Australian Open in January before going on to finish as runner-up at the US Open last month. In the process, Sabalenka usurped Iga Swiatek's 75-week reign at the top of the WTA Ranking to become the new World No. 1.
The Belarusian player was born in Minsk but now resides in Miami, Florida. Meanwhile, football star Beckham primarily lives in London but is the co-owner and president of soccer club Inter Miami CF.
Beckham says it was "lovely to meet" World No. 1
Beckham is often hailed as one of the greatest set-piece specialists of all time and one of the best midfielders of his generation. Moreover, he is certainly one of the most recognizable footballers of recent decades and is often hailed as one of the greatest English players in history.
Furthermore, he was twice runner-up for FIFA player of the year in 1999 and 2001, and in 2021 he was inducted into the Premier League Hall of Fame. He is also known as a businessman and for his philanthropic works, leading him to have been spotted in the Royal Box at Wimbledon many times in recent years.
Sabalenka shared a photo of her meeting the 48-year-old on social media with the joking caption "Low Key Miami Morning."
In response, Beckham wrote "So lovely to meet you" on Instagram followed by a tennis racket emoji.
Tennis fans have reacted very positively to the post, with one calling them "Two legends."
"Nice one Aryna.
Two legends in the house!" they wrote.
"Two superstars," another added.
"Perks of being David Beckham: Getting to meet Aryna Sabalenka," joked a third.
