Andrey is the winner of UTS Oslo! 🏆 Undefeated in the tournament, he takes away $421,800 prize money and is the first 2-time winner ⚡️⚡️✨
Andrey Rublev is the victor at the Ultimate Tennis Showdown in Oslo. He remains undefeated throughout and the player known as 'Rublo' in the Patrick Mouratoglou concept will scoop up $421,800 as he heads to Rotterdam. Not bad for a weekend's work.
Rublev becomes the first player to win two UTS tournaments after winning in Frankfurt last year. He beat Alex 'The Demon' De Minaur 1`4-16, 17-10, 16-13, 20-12 to lift the lightning bolt trophy as the first victor on the Ultimate Tennis Showdown (UTS) tour this season.
It was the first time that two former UTS champions had met beyond the Final Four. But it was the second time in which these two had met. Rublev also came back from a quarter behind to win 13-15, 18-10, 17-14, 17-12. De Minaur said Rublev was the man to beat in the format that sees timed quarters instead of sets and was born in COVID and returned for 2023.
After going two quarters to one up, he kept the momentum up winning four points in a row. De Minaur hit back to stay in touch. But another facet of UTS came clutch for Rublev as he used the bonus card with 30 seconds left on the clock to give him a six-point lead. This proved crucial as he scooped the title.
This after he remained undefeated from the group stage all the way to the final. Rublev is the master in Oslo and of UTS it seems.
