The Netflix Slam was a big success last year and saw Carlos Alcaraz face Rafael Nadal. Action returns to Mandalay Bay prior to Indian Wells as exhibitions continue prior to the double header in the form of the MGM Rewards Slam featuring some huge names.
It was even bigger with Jannik Sinner headlining the line-up, he has since had to withdraw due to his suspension from the sport. He has been replaced by Casper Ruud, the current World No.5.
No men's match has been confirmed yet with Alexander Zverev, Taylor Fritz, Tommy Paul set for a four player showdown. Andre Agassi is also involved over March 1 and 2. Aryna Sabalenka v Naomi Osaka is the women's match as the former Grand Slam champions and current and former World No.1 collide.
The format is that of a round-robin, the men involved will use 10 point tie-breakers to decide it. The two players with the most points will meet in the championship match for the so-called Lion's Cup.
“The 2024 ‘Netflix Slam’ at Mandalay Bay was a huge success and one of our most entertaining sporting events of the year,” said Lance Evans, MGM Resorts’ Senior Vice President of Sports and Sponsorships. “We anticipate creating another memorable event experience as tennis fans worldwide will enjoy watching the sport’s best players compete at the highest level in Las Vegas.”
“It should (be) fun, I think last year was a success with Rafael Nadal and Carlos Alcaraz. You want to be the last man standing for sure, it’s a lot of good players. I think it should be pretty tough competition with four players in the top 10”, said Casper Ruud.
It is not the only event taking place with the Eisenhower Cup as well as the Desert Smash featuring many of these names as they make use of being in America in the glitz and glamour of Tennis Paradise.
