SCHEDULE Day Three 2023 World Tennis League as Elena RYBAKINA confirmed out with illness, replaced by Vera Zvonareva

Day Three of the 2023 World Tennis League is here and it is the penultimate day before the final is confirmed in Abu Dhabi. But the big news is that Elena Rybakina won't be a part of it.
Rybakina as was reported earlier this morning is out with illness for the Falcons meaning that a mad scramble to get a replacement saw the schedule heavily delayed. Vera Zvonareva was the player who is now the stand-in for the team and will play in the doubles alongside Taylor Fritz and Sorana Cirstea.
Cirstea as a result will lead from the front when it comes to the Singles as they face Eagles comprising of Sofia Kenin who will face the Romanian, Taylor Fritz and Sumit Nagal. They currently sit third in the table. The other ties see Mirra Andreeva in both Mixed and Women's Doubles action with Andrey Rublev and Sofia Kenin against Zvonareva and Fritz and Cirstea.

Men's Doubles will see two teams who have played all week together collide as Andrey Rublev and Daniil Medvedev face Taylor Fritz and Sumit Nagal. That tie begins at around 12pm CET.
First Sabalenka v Swiatek clash of new season
While the second tie at around 15:00 CET sees Hawks face Kites as bottom faces the top and also gives an opportunity to see Aryna Sabalenka v Iga Swiatek for the first time in the upcoming 2024 season. Sabalenka has been leading from the front for the Kites as they top the table and will now face Swiatek in the penultimate game. The other singles tie sees Casper Ruud (Hawks) face Grigor Dimitrov (Kites).
Swiatek though will only play in Women's Doubles also, with Hurkacz again teaming with Caroline Garcia for Hawks instead. Stefanos Tsitsipas also will not play for another day with Lloyd Harris the partner of Grigor Dimitrov and Paula Badosa in doubles ties. Swiatek will play with Caroline Garcia against the best friend duo of Aryna Sabalenka and Paula Badosa though third up.

- I love WTA matches. Seek them out as much as possible on youtube and other platforms I already subscribe to. With that in mind, I do not wish to pay $$$ to a notoriously slippery subscription conglomerate sports broadcaster (like SkySports) just for the privilege to watch it and the tnt/eurosport/discovery subscription went from $$ to $$$+ annually in a blink of an eye. With ATP I have been begrudgingly paying xyz tennis only channel and try to catch up on slams elsewhere (pubs, youtube with USO later on games are just as enjoyable to watch and a smart move to upload on their official channel) but they don't cover WTA. I tried another Tennis dedicated channel that advertised originally as broadcasting where I live, but turned out, they took the money, but didn't cover the matches (only fluff/filler value documentaries). I don't understand why it is so hard to not lock the live matches to one broadcaster only refusing so many people who are happy to pay for the privilege just not through that one entry point. WTA is so exciting for the last few years and they really should capitalise on it as much as possible. And I know it is somewhat naive talking without knowing the inner works, but not being able to find any WTA other than youtube (and then only highlights mostly) is just so frustrating.JayJay11-09-2026

- Iga needs to make a decision whether she wants to continue the sport of tennis or pursue whatever she has going on in her personal life. One can tell that tennis is no longer an interest of hers. She should retire while she is on top, not when she slides to the bottom of the rankings. She has too much talent to look how she does on the court these days.
