Women's tennis has seen another successful season, the most successful players were awarded at the end of the season in more categories.
The most prestigious award was, of course, the one for the best player of 2019 Season.
Ashleigh Barty was the one to grab this award after winning the tournaments in Miami, Roland Garros, Birmingham and the WTA Finals in Shenzhen. She defeated Simona Halep, Naomi Osaka, Karolina Pliskova and Bianca Andreescu in the battle for the award.
However, Bianca Andreescu could be still happy as she earned another award. Karolina Muchova, Elena Rybakina, Iga Swiatek, Dayana Yastremska and Coco Gauff, who were the other nominees, were playing very good tennis during the 2019 season. But none of them managed to win the titles in Indian Wells, Toronto and lift the maiden Grand Slam trophy in Flushing Meadows.
Also, teams in doubles could win a prize for the best doubles team of the year. Mertens & Sabalenka, Strycova & Hsieh, Zhang & Stosur and Babos & Mladenovic were teams nominated for this award. The 2019 Rolland Garros champions, Australian Open finalists and 2019 WTA Finals champions won also this trophy. Timea Babos and Kristina Mladenovic received 44% of the votes and therefore they won this award.
Sofia Kenin won the 2019 WTA most improved player when she received 39% of votes. The other nominated players were Amanda Anisimova, Alison Riske, Belinda Bencic, Zheng Saisai and Donna Vekic.
The Comeback player of the year is another popular award and this year it was Belinda Bencic who dominated it. The young Swiss received 80% of the votes to defeat Svetlana Kuznetsova and Bethanie Mattek-Sands.
