Svitolina was one of the best women's tennis players during the 2019 Season but she wants to improve in 2020 and therefore she hired Marcos Baghdatis as a part of her coaching team.
Elina Svitolina ends the 2019 Season as number 6 in the WTA Ranking. But despite winning 39 matches, she did not manage to lift any trophy during the season. And so the 2018 WTA Finals champion decided to hire former ATP world number 8 Marcos Baghdatis as a part of her team for 2020 Season. On her Instagram account, Svitolina wrote:
“Starting now, Marcos will be part of my team in the role of consultant coach, alongside my current coach Andy Bettles. I’m very excited to announce this news and I’m confident his strong experience will add value to my game. With such a great coaching team, I have set high objectives for 2020. Teamwork gives you the best opportunity to turn vision into reality."
Marcos Baghdatis played the last match of his career at the Wimbledon this year where he lost to Matteo Berrettini. Baghdatis' career-high in the ATP Ranking is place number 8 and he managed to win 4 ATP and 11 titles on Challenger during his career. 34-year-old 2006 Australian Open finalist wrote on Twitter:
“I am so glad to announce the next chapter of my life and look forward to coaching a great athlete and super tennis player, No.6 ranked WTA player Elina Svitolina, working alongside Andre Bettles! I want to thank Elina for putting her trust in me. Let’s do this! Bring it on 2020.”
