Olympic Games, British tennis star
Andy Murray will be leaving one sport for another as he begins his quest to become a scratch golfer. First stop; the Celebrity Pro-Am.
The former World No.1 announced he would be retiring earlier this year, before eventually doing so at the summer Olympic games. Although Murray had remained quiet on his future goals, the 37-year old began to tease fans on social media with clips of himself working on his golf swing. The mystery was finally solved when it was announced Murray would be making his debut at the Celebrity Pro-Am at the BMW PGA, which kicks off on Wednesday, September 18.
Murray warned of intimidating atmosphere by golf pro
The three-time Grand Slam champion will be competing alongside Ryder Cup Bob MacIntyre, England's record Test wicket-taker Jimmy Anderson and Ballroom dancer Anton Du Beke. A crowd of 20,000 people is expected for the Celebrity Pro-Am on Wednesday, and BMW PGA defending champion Ryan Fox gave his thoughts on having Murray compete at the event.
"I wouldn't mind seeing Andy Murray," said Fox. "I saw a post on social media that he's keen to get down to scratch. See how much work he's got to do. Most of the cricketers are generally pretty good.
“It's always interesting for them tomorrow. It's an intimidating setting. There's a lot of people out there and it's always kind of funny to see some of those shots off the first tee. There's generally, if you're on the putting green, you hear a lot of shouts of "Fore" off that. So kind of expecting to see a little bit of that tomorrow as well which is good fun.”
