Armenian match-fixer who made more than $9 million by fixing tennis matches in just two years has stated that he is ‘proud’ of what he did.
The tennis world was rocked with the arrest of Grigor Sargsyan who was an Armenian immigrant living in Belgium.
The individual, who was nicknamed ‘Maestro’, admitted that he masterminded the biggest illegal betting ring in the sport where more than 180 players were corrupted, according to Daily Mail.
Sargsyan turned his $350 savings into $9 million and called himself the ‘Robin Hood’ of the tennis world.
He was jailed for five years after being arrested by the SWAT authorities in Belgium from his penthouse.
It was reported that more than 350 matches were corrupted because of the match-fixing ring operated by Sargsyan. He was also quoted in the report where he said that he was ‘proud’ of what he did.
The report further stated that the majority of the players who were involved in corrupt activities were from the lower level.
It was also revealed that in some matches, both players were on board with Sargsyan’s group to be a part of match-fixing where they ended up dropping points, service games and sets.
