Roger Federer’s former coach Severin Luthi believes that current
world number two
Novak Djokovic has now started to walk on ‘eggshells’.
The 36-year-old is currently taking part in the
US Open 2023
where he has already booked his place in the quarterfinal after defeating
Croatia’s Borna Gojo in the round of 16 fixture on Sunday with a score of 6-2,
7-5, 6-4.
Luthi, who coached the former world number one, was quoted
in a report where he stated that Djokovic is now walking on ‘eggshells’, knowing
fully well that his body is not strong enough to bail him out of trouble every
time.
“He knows he can no longer dance on all counts,” he said. If
you make major mistakes at this age, it can have serious consequences. Djokovic
is also starting to walk on eggshells.
“The way Djokovic plans his career at his age is excellent.
In addition, he has the gift, like Roger in the past, of not having to play a
lot of preparation tournaments. He is simply at the top right away.
“When you have been there for so long, you also have to
think about what still pleases you. So you may miss out on one more
tournament.”
Djokovic is now set to face America’s Taylor Fritz in the quarterfinal
of the fourth and final Grand Slam of the year on Tuesday.
