Berrettini set for Laver Cup debut with Team Europe in September

The third member of Team Europe has been announced ahead of the Laver Cup which is set to take place at the TD Garden in Boston from 24-26 September with Matteo Berrettini joining the team.

Joining a team aiming for their fourth consecutive title with Bjorn Borg at the helm as captain once more will have the recent Wimbledon finalist at their disposal.

It will be his debut in the tournament as he joins Dominic Thiem and Roger Federer who have announced their participations previously.

“Matteo has had an incredible run, not only on the grass courts this summer but really since the start of the year when he helped Italy reach the final of the ATP Cup in Melbourne and then reached the fourth round of the Australian Open and the quarter-finals at Roland Garros,” said Borg on the announcement.

While for Berrettini, he is excited not only to play in the tournament but to be alongside two legends in Borg and Federer.

“I’m really excited to be part of the Laver Cup this year. I’ve heard so much talk in the locker rooms from the guys that have played it before about what a cool event it is. Playing at TD Garden, having Bjorn Borg as my Captain, and being on the same team as one of my childhood idols, Roger Federer, is going to be a really special experience.”

No players are yet set for Team World's effort with John McEnroe as captain once more.
