World number 8 in the ATP Ranking, Matteo Berrettini spoke to Italian newspaper La Stampa about how he sees the current situation around tennis.

The Italian did not have an ideal beginning to the 2020 season when he played only 2 matches at the Australian Open. After winning the first-round match in straight sets, Berrettini lost to Sandgren in the second round. Currently, Matteo is spending time in the United States and he spoke about how he sees the current situation.
“I am lucky because I have the chance to train in Boca Raton. I have built a gym at home. The problem is to avoid doing the same ranking every day. For me it will be a long break. Tennis is not a contact sport, but it’s global and players and coaches travel around. We have to be patient and wait when it will be possible to return on the court," said Berrettini.
“It would be important to have something to watch in this challenging period in the respect of rules. The beauty of tennis is to play in front of spectators on-site and in front of the television. If players play without spectators, but we will have to contend with that. It would be great to play Roland Garros and the US Open but I think it would be better to play only regional tournaments and start again in 2021. I hope to play as many tournaments as possible. I am open to playing the Italian Masters in Milan and Rome. The crisis will have a negative impact on smaller tournaments. The Big Three have already shown that they are able to return stronger than before. It will be a big challenge for younger players. I expect that tournaments will be more competitive when we will return to the court, as we will look forward to returning to the court to play matches," Berrettini said.
