Kiki Bertens has decided that she will play for the Netherlands in the Fed Cup and Olympic Games in Tokyo next year, it has been revealed.
Bertens has had discussions with her team and the Dutch Tennis Federation and has come to the conclusion that she will now play in the showpiece events next year. This comes after her previously not making herself available for international selection.
This was due to her wanting to focus on her individual ranking on the tour and she will now aim to aid the efforts of her nation.
"I weighed the pros and cons and made the choice to represent the Netherlands at the Fed Cup and in Tokyo," said Bertens.
Dutch captain Paul Haarhuis reacted to this and said that from his perspective, he is pleased and sees it as something which will increase the chances of the team.
"It is of course very gratifying that Kiki is making her selection available for the first time since 2017.
This greatly increases the chances of the team.
