The Laureus World Sports Awards nominees have been confirmed with Carlos Alcaraz and Aryna Sabalenka among those on the shortlist days after Jannik Sinner was openly snubbed for a nomination.

Alcaraz is nominated for Laureus World Sportsman of the Year after winning two Grand Slams in 2024. He is alongside multi World Record holder, Mondo Duplantis as well as swimmer Leon Marchand, cyclist Tadej Pogacar and F1 superstar Max Verstappen.

Novak Djokovic is the reigning champion and holds the joint record for award wins. Sportswoman of the Year sees Aryna Sabalenka nominated with the World No.1 winning both the Australian Open and US Open in 2024.

She ascended to top spot in the WTA Rankings and has overtaken Iga Swiatek as the leading light in women's tennis. She will be joined by three athletics stars in Sifan Hassan, Faith Kipyegon and Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone as well as standout gymnast Simone Biles.

No further nominations have been given for any further tennis stars. Jannik Sinner was openly snubbed for the award last week with the World No.1 having a statement issued by Laureus before nominations were even confirmed stating that he would not be on the shortlist.

This taking into account his ban from the sport for testing positive for Clostebol. A ban he decided to take after it looked likely to go to an appeal at the Court of Arbitration for Sport. He will not be back until his home tournament of Rome in the clay court season.

Perhaps a shoe-in for the award or one of the forerunners, Alcaraz instead flies the flag for men's tennis. Albeit others in the category such as Verstappen and Duplantis are likely to attract more attention. The winners will be announced in Madrid on April 21. It is the 25th anniversary of the awards with the winners receiving The Laureus, a statuette. It is voted on by 69 sporting legends of the Laureus World Sport Academy.
