Holger Rune
trained with Novak Djokovic just ahead of the Shanghai Masters. The Danish
player once again shared a training session with the 24-time Grand Slam
champion and posted a photo of the moment on his social media.
Rune comes
into the tournament after a strong run at the Japan Open, where he reached the
semifinals but lost in two tight tiebreaks to Arthur Fils, squandering several
set points in both [6-7(8), 6-7(10)]. As for Djokovic, his last tournament was
at the US Open, where he was defeated by Alexei Popyrin in the third round.
With the
draw set for Shanghai, Djokovic is set to debut against the winner between Alex
Michelsen and the surprising Chinese player Yuchaokete Bu, who recently made
the semifinals in Beijing. As the 12th seed, Rune will face the winner between
Christopher O’Connell and Matteo Berrettini

at the ‘Six Kings Slam,’ an exhibition where he will compete alongside Novak

The
exhibition tournament will mark Nadal’s return to hardcourts. This year, he
only played at the Brisbane International in January and the ‘Netflix Slam’
exhibition with Alcaraz. The 22-time Grand Slam champion last competed at the
Olympic Games in late July.
Nadal also

& Sports Business” from the Rafa Nadal School of Sports in collaboration

management in the sports industry.
From court
to cloud: Alcaraz and Sinner share flight to Shanghai
Carlos
Alcaraz defeated Jannik Sinner in the final of the Beijing Open in their 10th
encounter. The Spaniard secured his fourth title of the season by claiming
victory over the world No. 1 with a scoreline of 6-7(6), 6-4, 7-6(3) in three
hours and 21 minutes. Alcaraz made a remarkable comeback in the third-set
tiebreak, where he was down by two mini-breaks (0-3) but won the last 7 points
consecutively.
After
Alcaraz’s win, both players had to quickly travel to Shanghai, where they will
debut on Friday. A photo circulated on social media showing Sinner and Alcaraz,
along with their teams, on a private jet traveling the more than 1,200
kilometers between Beijing and Shanghai, just hours after their final match.
The photo
highlights the good relationship between the two rivals and their respective
teams. Sinner himself congratulated Alcaraz on social media after the Spaniard
took the title in China: “Congrats Carlos, fantastic week for you and your
team! Super happy with this week, thank you Beijing, Shanghai next 💪🏼.”
Caroline
Garcia to attend Harvard Business School
A few days
ago,
Caroline Garcia announced the end of her 2024 season following
inconsistent results. The French world No. 36 had previously reported threats
and insults after her US Open defeat, acknowledging that she needed time off to
relieve the pressure.
Garcia
played her last tournament at the Guadalajara Open, where, as the 4th seed, she
reached the semifinals but lost to 5th seed Magdalena Frech (7-6, 7-5). Today,
the 30-year-old shared good news on social media, announcing that she will use
her time off the courts to attend university:
“I made it
to Harvard Business School 🎓 So grateful for this opportunity to join such
a special university! I can’t wait to keep learning new things and meet amazing
people from different fields. Thank you, WTA and Anita Elberse, for this
opportunity. No better way to use my off-season. 🙌🏻”
Halep
reacts with emotional message following her long-awaited victory
Simona
Halep secured her first WTA Tour victory in two years, leaving a heartfelt
message on social media after defeating Arina Rodionova (No. 114) 6-2, 4-6,
6-4. The world No. 1130 had only played one match in the WTA 1000 Miami Open (a
loss to Badosa), and two months later, she was unable to finish her second
match against McCartney Kessler at the WTA 125 Paris, retiring due to knee
issues.
Injuries
have continued to trouble Halep following the reduction of her doping ban.
Although cleared to compete since March, the former world No. 1 missed the past
few months of the tour as she recovered from an injury.
The 2-time
Grand Slam champion thanked her supporters and had an emotional reaction after
the win: “Words cannot describe the feeling of being out there on court
competing - and winning my first match after such a long period - in the sport
I love. Thank you for all your support and your love, it means the world to me ❤️”
