An ongoing debate albeit with the tournament not taking place until July has surrounded
Wimbledon and whether the decision to ban Russian and Belarusian players will be upheld.
They are expected to once again be allowed to compete in the tournament in 2023 as per
Daily Mail. The All England Lawn and Tennis Club are currently on the verge of reversing the ban that meant athletes such as
Daniil Medvedev, Andrey Rublev,
Aryna Sabalenka and
Victoria Azarenka couldn't compete.
As per the report though, they will still be required to compete under a neutral flag and could face being booted from the tournament if any support is shown towards the War or Putin.
This debate dominated last year's tournament with criticism pointed towards Elena Rybakina for winning the title amid being Moscow born despite her competing for most of her career as Kazakh.
