Novak Djokovic was asked during his post-match interview about the news that Juan Manuel Del Potro underwent another knee surgery. His response was a warm and heartfelt one. He said:
"He's probably one of the most unfortunate tennis players I have known with injuries."
And that statement is not far from the truth. Ever since his initial injury in 2018 Del Potro underwent 3 surgeries. Djokovic remembered Del Potro at a time when he wasn't injured and gave him high praise:
"The quality of tennis that he possesses and with that much time that he had in a career that he played, he already has an amazing career, but, it's really unfortunate to see him struggle so much."
Del Potro himself vowed to come back to the court and Djokovic himself believes him. He complemented his fighting spirit and desire to play saying:
"His fighting spirit and resilience to come back is something that's very inspiring to me and to everyone else. He's a gentle giant, a very likable guy. I know there is probably no one that wants to play tennis more than him right now, and he's, I'm sure, doing everything he possibly can."
