The PTPA (Professional Tennis Players Association) have faced claims that it 'generates division' and have responded to that notion in an open letter sent out on Wednesday.
Co-signed by
Novak Djokovic,
Paula Badosa,
Ons Jabeur and Vasek Pospisil among others who make up the executive committee, it says the following.
This after Bernabe Zapata Miralles claimed that it causes division and is not positive, albeit with Ahmad Nassar part of the PTPA saying that it was not prompted by anything in particular.
"Some have questioned the necessity of the PTPA, claiming that the tours are already working to address concerns related to player welfare, economic opportunities, and the structure of the sport," the letter said as reported by ESPN.
"These efforts are necessary and appreciated. However, it is important to acknowledge that the tennis ecosystem has had decades to address these issues without a players' association, and unfortunately, players and fans have been left behind when compared to their counterparts in other sports."
"We leave all players with a final question, has there ever existed a tennis organization that focused exclusively on supporting and representing all players, regardless of the tour?"
