Tennis fans looking to enjoy the view on Centre Court at Wimbledon may be forced to shell out a ridiculously large sum of money. It has been revealed that almost a fifth of the seats on Centre Court are being reserved for and sold to the wealthy, for a price of £116,000 each.
There are a total of 2,520 of these seats, referred to as “debentures” on sale. They can be reserved for each of the 14 days of the tournament for five years from 2026-30. Applications to buy the exclusive seats, which are positioned on the same level as the royal box, close at noon on Friday.
The All England Lawn Tennis Club officials said the number of applications have already far exceeded supply, despite the ludicrous price. However, few newcomers are expected to be able to access these debenture seats as ticket holders have the right of first refusal. Some families have held onto the same debenture tickets since their inception in 1920.
Additionally, the holders will enjoy the benefit of being able to visit the private champions room, which has a direct view of outside courts. Furthermore, they will have access to a dedicated entrance to the court, plus their own choice of seven exclusive restaurants and bars. They will also have access to the courtside restaurant, which boasts views over Courts 16 and 17, with signature menus created by celebrity chefs.
