Roger Federer is set to miss the rest of the 2020 season due to a second knee operation which took place earlier this year but a return to the court may be sooner than expected.
Federer’s coach Severin Luthi spoke recently and said his practice regime will start fully again in mid-August but they are still targeting the Australian Open for his return.
“Roger is fine. He’s very good, but that’s not surprising when you know how he always sees the positive side of things,” said Luthi.
“He has resumed physical training with Pierre Paganini. The next step will be mid-August, he’ll start practicing again.”
“We are sticking to what was decided. He’ll come back for the Australian Open 2021 if it takes place,” he continued.
“However, we are considering whether to play a tournament just before Melbourne.”
