The 2024 French Open was launched yesterday albeit it wasn’t out with the old and in with the new as it was confirmed that the night sessions will remain as they are for the 2024 session.
A bone of conjecture for some time, the tournament finishing in the early hours of the morning means empty stadiums by a certain time due to public transport in the city. The Roland Garros night session begins at around 8:30pm which means that finishes in the early hours are always likely. This is despite only one match usually taking place. Another issue always surrounds the match picks with men’s matches often preferred and women’s matches snubbed on a lot of occasions.
While they will be getting a new retractable roof which is the main change, some issues have remained with an additional night session even added on night one which usually doesn’t have one. This is compared to other Grand Slams who finish late and start an hour earlier and still encounter problems but there is still some mix added to respective ATP and WTA clashes. A change asked for by many won’t be happening this year at least.
