Wimbledon is set to introduce AI technology-based features in the upcoming edition. The third Grand Slam of the year will commence on June 30. The tournament is one of the oldest in the history of tennis and remains a special event because it is a major competition played on a grass court.
This year, the tournament will feature special AI technology-based enhancements available to users on digital platforms. One of the features will be Match Chat, which will have an ‘interactive AI assistant’, according to a news published by
UKtech.news. The feature, which will provide fans with real-time analysis, will be available in the men’s and women’s singles matches.
Another AI-backed product that will be introduced at this year’s mega-event is the ‘Likelihood to win’ feature. The tool will give the fan a sense of which player is getting closer to a win throughout the match. The features have been established and tested by IBM using different technologies. The features will be available for the fans to use on Wimbledon’s application as well as Wimbledon’s website.
The marketing and commercial director of the All England Club, Usama Al-Qassab, was quoted in the report, expressing optimism that the new feature will give fans an experience like they have never had before. “The innovations we have introduced in recent years, driven by generative AI in conjunction with IBM, allow us to provide more exciting ways for our hundreds of millions of fans around the world to interact with The Championships,” he said. “This year’s new features will encourage the Wimbledon audience to immerse themselves and engage with all the match action like never before.”
IBM’s senior vice president of marketing and communications, Jonathan Adashek, also shared optimism about the success of the new features and believes that Match Chat and Likelihood to Win features will give fans ‘real-time insights’. “Solutions like Match Chat and Likelihood to Win show how AI on watsonx can deliver tennis fans the compelling real-time insight and match engagement they want around this historic tournament and its players,” said Adashek
