Halep claims third straight WTA Fan Favourite award

Saturday, 21 December 2019 at 13:23

Simona Halep has claimed a third straight Fan Favourite award which was expected despite a late charge from a rising Polish star.

Halep finish above Iga Swiatek after previously defeating her compatriot, Agnieszka Radwanska back in 2017; it was the Romanian who started well this week in the voting but had to survive a late charge.

The latter has had an excellent year finishing runner up at the Samsung Open; playing Halep in the fourth round at Roland Garros and going into the World's top 50; she fell only just short of defeating the Romanian.

Petra Kvitova finished in third; with Naomi Osaka, Elina Svitolina and Bianca Andreescu rounding out the voting.
