World No.1 Ashleigh Barty won her maiden Grand Slam at last year's Roland Garros and came close to a second after reaching this year's semifinal at the Australian Open.
The 24-year old
decided to skip this year's
US Open due to the ongoing health crisis, and is uncertain about participating at the French Open in September. However, she claims to be looking forward to her home Grand Slam event in 2021.
“Already, thinking about the Australian Open in 2021 makes me smile," Barty said in an interview on AustralianOpen.com. "I can’t help but have a smile on my face - I have such great memories and I feel like I am at home.
It’s incredible to get the love and support that I do and even though it may look different, we’ll wait and see, but I certainly can’t wait to get back out there. But I know that I am itching to get back out there when the time is right, and when I feel like I am ready to go, we will be out there in a heartbeat."
Barty is the second Australian WTA singles No.1 after Evonne Goolagong Cawley. With eight WTA singles titles and ten doubles titles to her name, she is hoping to leave her own mark on the WTA circuit.
