Andy
Roddick commented on the possibility of
Rafael Nadal becoming the president of
Real Madrid.
Recently,
Spanish media outlets have reported that the current president of Real Madrid,
Florentino Perez, intends to step down from his leadership role at the
successful European football club.
In response
to this, former tennis player
Andy Roddick is reportedly considering Rafael
Nadal as one of the options to replace Perez.
It is
suggested that Nadal's strong connection with the club, his impending
retirement from tennis, and his legendary status in sports could make him a
suitable candidate for the position.
American
former world No. 1 tennis player Andy Roddick discussed on Tennis Channel the
potential for the 22-time Grand Slam champion, Rafael Nadal, to take up the
role of president at the club he supports, Real Madrid:
"John
Elway did it with the Broncos but he also is a football player.
“But this
is a surprise and it is fantastic if it happens. I think that there would be
some necessary on-the-job experience needed real quick, this will be really
cool. I can't pretend to know what will go on or what in the world he would
have to learn but this is a surprising headline," Roddick said.
Nadal is
still in the process of recovering from the psoas injury that led him to
undergo surgery in the month of June. The Spaniard has only played two matches
this year at the Australian Open, and although there was hope until the last
moment that he might participate in the French Open, Nadal announced that he
wasn't in a condition to compete.
As a result
of this, the former world No. 1 added that he wouldn't be playing for the
remainder of 2023 and that he would do his best to return in 2024 with the
intention of competing for one last year on the ATP tour.
His aim is
to conclude his career by participating in the tournaments that have been the
most significant to him throughout his over 20-year career.
