Traveling across Europe for tournaments is a routine for every professional tennis players, but it comes with its own set of frustrations and that familiar feeling of homesick. Recently, US tennis stars, Jessica Pegula and Taylor Fritz shared their biggest travel pet peeves while competing in the old continent in John Inser Podcast, Nothing Major.
Turns out, even globetrotting athletes deal with annoying hotel quirks and head-scratching food surprises while competing overseas.
World's brand new No. 3, Jessica Pegula a funny complaint about some essentials that are nowhere to be found:
"There is no ice anywhere; if you ask, they give you just one ice cube." The pillows that are not pillows they are the equivalent of a paper towel.”
“The room key for electricity, (they never want to give you another key) then if housekeeping comes they take it out so you come back and it’s 80 degrees in the room.”
John Isner added his complaint, as he doesn't seem too much into European breakfasts: "I need a straw for the scrambled eggs! Why are they always so runny? It’s gross."
Sam Querrey joined, pointing out the frustrating airports practice of not revealing gate information until the last minute.
USA's No. 1, Taylor Fritz also had something to say about the doorways: "half-sized doorways at all the tournament sites that you can barely walk through holding your bag".
Other players like Alison Riske-Amritraj and Ethan Quinn joined the conversation, highlighting issues such as tiny shower doors and the limited space in SUVs for luggage.
The exchange quickly turned into a fun and supportive space for players to share their travel woes, with nearly 200 replies flooding in within a week, which triggered Sam Querrey's idea to suggest that the podcast should dedicate an entire episode about this topic.
Team USA arrive to Paris behind their best clay-court players of the season: Coco Gauff and Tommy Paul. Both players have strong reasons to feel confident in Paris and for sure are a major threat to anyone.
