Polish tennis star
Iga Swiatek sent a congratulatory message
to the men’s singles world number one
Novak Djokovic for his success in the Paris
Masters.
The 36-year-old defeated Bulgaria’s Grigor Dimitrov in the
final of the competition in straight sets with a score of 6-4, 6-3.
Following that win, Djokovic posted pictures of his journey in
the French capital. In response to that, Swiatek sent a congratulatory message.
The 22-year-old also ended up winning a big title herself as
she defeated America’s Jessica Pegula in the final in straight sets with a
score of 6-1, 6-0 to lift the
WTA Finals trophy.
The victory was an important one for Swiatek who is now on a
mission to reclaim the top spot in the WTA rankings.
The Warsaw-born lost the top spot to Belarus’ Aryna
Sabalenka after a disappointing outing in the US Open.
Swiatek was knocked out of the fourth and final Grand Slam
of the year after losing to Latvia’s Jeļena Ostapenko in the round of 16 with a
score of 3-6, 6-3, 6-1.
But since then, the current world number two has been in
impressive form as before winning the Finals in Cancun, she also lifted the
China Open after defeating Russia’s Liudmila Samsonova in the final with a score
of 6-2, 6-2.
